Wow Of The Week

Solar Decathlon Europe entrants Team MIMO

Solar Decathlon Europe is an international competition that encourages architecture and design students to innovate ways to build sustainably. The team from the Dusseldorf University of Applied Sciences call themselves MIMO – for Minimal Impact Maximum Output – and their entry is the sensitive renovation of a 1905 warehouse in Wuppertal currently used as an event location. Team MIMO is adding 15 apartments to the building, using materials and methods that will reduce the new structure’s environmental impact to practically nothing. There’s even a rooftop greenhouse garden to allow the residents to grow their own fruit and vegetable in an urban setting. Of course the team chose GROHE showers and faucets for their water- and energy-saving qualities. Team MIMO project manager Janina Schleuter and team member Liwia Gnoth give us a glimpse of how Solar Decathlon Europe is imagining a brighter future in their WOW of the Week.
