Wow Of The Week
LIXIL Community Day
For the fifth year in row, the month of October is dedicated to the LIXIL Community Day campaign where executives and employees from all workplaces and regions around the world take part in corporate citizenship activities to make a positive impact on the community. With LIXIL being a global maker of pioneering water and housing products, all projects are linked to the three strategic pillars the company’s corporate sustainability strategy: “Global Sanitation & Hygiene”, “Water Conservation & Environmental Sustainability” and “Diversity & Inclusion”.
Let’s take a look at what LIXIL has already achieved: In the past year, around 10,000 employees from over 30 countries were involved in different social initiatives – whereby there were no limits to creativity: Projects ranged from beach and park clean-up activities to raise awareness for the reduction of plastic waste over to creating story books for children or bake sales to generate donations. However, the engagement is not only limited to local projects. Also, LIXIL’s global initiatives, such as the “Make a Splash!” partnership with UNICEF received great support from all around the world. The goal of this collaboration is to improve sanitation with underserved communities and to ensure the availability of innovative and affordable products for people who lack basic sanitation and handwashing opportunities. Last but not least, the reduction of single-use plastic also plays a crucial role for LIXIL and its brands. For example, GROHE, a leading global brand for complete bathroom solutions and kitchen fittings, supports a plastic-free water consumption with the GROHE Blue water system, which offers filtered and sparkling water from the tap. By further reducing plastic packaging, LIXIL makes a direct contribution to a more sustainable world. As another plastic-saving initiative, LIXIL started the “mymizu” challenge last year to eliminate plastic bottles from everyday life. The accompanying “mymizu” app helps people to find free water refill stations when being on the go. As a result, the app covers more than 200,000 stations by now and employees saved up to 34,000 PET bottles.
In line with this year’s LIXIL Community Day, all employees from around the world are encouraged to also share their ideas and tips on how to reduce single-use plastic during everyday life. And now it is your turn: We would be more than happy if you also take the month of October as an opportunity to make a positive impact on the community! It's not that difficult, so let's tackle the change together.
