GROHE understands the sustainable transformation of its business as an ongoing journey. The starting point is always a holistic view, which becomes apparent in a 360-degree approach:Based on legal conformity, it equally encompasses the interests of, and responsibility for, employees, suppliers, customers, products, processes as well as the brand's contribution to the well-being of society.

Besides offering a resource-saving product portfolio which reduces the ecological footprint of consumers, GROHE ambitiously pursues various sustainability initiatives that give back to both planet and society. Aiming at a waste-free future and reducing the amount of plastics in our daily life as well as in our waterways is one of many missions GROHE has taken on. To reach this goal GROHE offers product solutions like the water system GROHE Blue which makes plastic bottles a thing of the past.
With its cooperation with everwave, a social business that uses innovative waste collection boats to collect plastic waste before it damages marine ecosystems, GROHE is supporting on freeing rivers and oceans from plastic.

As the third pillar of its Less Plastic Initiative launched in 2018, GROHE is aiming to eliminate plastic from its product packaging. Learn more on how the brand is tackling the global plastic waste crisis.

GROHE was selected to be part of the "50 Sustainability Climate Leaders" a global sustainability and climate change protection initiative that highlights international companies that are pioneers in their respective industries. But why is GROHE pioneer in sustainability? GROHE was one of the first sanitary brand that achieved CO2-neutral production:
Since 2020 all eight LIXIL fittings plants, including the plants in Hemer, Lahr, Porta Westfalica (all Germany), Albergaria (Portugal) and Klaeng (Thailand) along with Jiangmen (China), Danang (Vietnam) and Monterrey (Mexico) as well as the German logistics centres of the GROHE brand are CO2-neutral. In 2021, the GROHE outbound logistics became CO2-neutral.

The basis for this achievement are several initiatives at the LIXIL plants like the investment in block heat and power plants as well as in the building of new solar parks.

So far unavoidable CO2 emissions are offset through three compensation projects: a hydroelectric power station in India and Vietnam as well as a borehole maintenance project in Malawi.

Dive into the organisation's journey to become CO2-neutral in production.

GROHE is double winner of the German Sustainability Award 2021

For its great achievements, the sanitary brand was awarded with the leading European sustainability prize in two areas at once: In the transformation field "Resources" and, for the plastic-saving water system GROHE Blue, in the category "Design".

Aiming for a world without waste – GROHE launches its first Cradle to Cradle Certified® products

The overconsumption of resources worldwide requires a rethinking of the linear Take-Make-Waste model. That's why GROHE decided to become one of the very first brands within the sanitary industry to apply for the Cradle to Cradle Certified® Product Standard. In the Cradle to Cradle model, in contrast to the linear one, the product is manufactured in such a way that, at the end of its life, the components can be used to create new products. With sustainability goals in mind, the certification process follows five criteria: Material health, material reutilization, renewable energy, water stewardship, and social fairness. Each product is then designated a level of achievement. Three faucets (GROHE BauEdge S-Size, GROHE Eurosmart S-Size, GROHE Eurosmart Kitchen) as well as the GROHE Tempesta 100 shower rail set are now Cradle to Cradle Certified® at the Gold level. Cradle to Cradle Certified® is a registered trademark of the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute.

Education is the foundation for a good start into a prosperous future. That's why the brand launched its GROHE Installer Vocational Training and Education (GIVE) program which collaborates with 41 institutions offering plumbing training across EMENA. The GIVE program supports schools in creating a uniform approach with modern equipment, training material and a written examination that will enable the students to experience a hands-on education.
