GROHE's commitment

How GROHE is committed to the UN Sustainable Development Goals

Have you ever heard of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals? We would like to show you what they are all about and explore GROHE’s contribution to achieving these important goals.

Back in 2015, all United Nations Member States adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the worldwide commitment to preventing irreversible environmental damage and to protect the planet’s ecosystem for future generations.

The agenda basically provides a blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet. It consists of 17 overarching Sustainable Development Goals - the SDGs. The 17 goals cover a wide field of current challenges such as climate change, gender equality, quality education, or good health and well-being. Each of them is further broken down into comprehensive sub-targets and indicators used to measure progress toward reaching the targets. The SDGs are aimed at everyone: governments worldwide, but also civil society, the private sector, and academia.

As part of LIXIL, GROHE has based its sustainability strategy on these SDGs, using them as a major guideline when forming management decisions. The focus is on three strategic pillars: “Global Sanitation & Hygiene", “Water Conservation & Environmental Sustainability,” and “Diversity & Inclusion”. Each of these pillars contributes to different SDGs.

To give a concrete example: The aim of the strategic pillar “Water Conservation and Environmental Sustainability” is to achieve net zero carbon emissions from housing and lifestyle solutions, as well as business operations, thereby dramatically reducing LIXIL’s and thus also GROHE’s environmental footprint. This specific endeavor contributes to SDG 6 (“Clean Water and Sanitation”), SDG 7, (“Affordable and Clean Energy”), SDG 11 (“Sustainable Cities and Communities”), SDG 12 (“Responsible Consumption and Production”), and SDG 13 (“Climate Action”).

Translating this theoretical approach into action on an operational level, GROHE has already achieved carbon-neutral production in April 2020 and now – with the wider goal in mind – aims to turn all sales offices emission-free by 2021. On a product level, technologies such as GROHE Silkmove ES, included in GROHE faucets, make a difference: Instead of heating water unnecessarily, cold water is supplied with the faucet lever in the middle position. For a family of four, this saves up to 279 kg CO 2 and around 260 euros annually. With this kind of technology, GROHE moreover offers consumers the possibility to actively contribute to the achievement of the SDGs.
